My understanding is that geraniums are the ones that have the sturdy stem where as Pelargoniums are the hanging variety.

After a few years of growth, they grow leggy and will do well with pruning.

I prune my hibiscus short and to shape it. Prunning gives the plant more volume and encourage blooming. Flowering dependes on amount of sunlight. Hibiscus likes the full sun, enough water and also apply fertilizer once a fortnight.

I live in the US and have to bring in the plants during the snowy winter months. I have resorted to mercilessly cutting it down to about 1-2 feet from the root otherwise they harbor all kinds of bugs which infect my tulsi and other plants. So far they seem to be happy with this kind of attention. I had the same straggly problem when in the early days I would just bring them in and not chop them down. Not sure how it would do anywhere else.

I didnt know that cassia came in pink. I thought they were in Flaming red and Yellow only. Interesting fact. You should see these dense pink blossoms on 12th main near the signal. Cant miss it. Ofcourse you are the tree expert. You know the name of the trees that you post on.

the pink blossoms are probably cassia, both the deep pink and the lighter shade. the last one you have on here is probably the lagestromia speciosa (queen's crepe myrtle).

Hi Natti, read your post with so much interest. Your rose grows so well after you've pruned them, indicating all is well. Congrats!

If I may add, in my garden I don't usually get rid of suckers (100% of my roses are own-root).

Since suckers are built direct from roots, I believe the plants must've had plenty of energy to begin with for sprouting from deep underneath the soil, as opposed to from the bud eyes/union. I usually just let it be. I believe that a plant always knows best on how it should set the course for its own survival which we human should not place too much intervention.

Suckering is a way of telling us that the rose prefers brand new and strong canes, which will soon vigorously producing more and quality flowers. In the long run, the new canes work in replacing the older canes and in time better withstand problems/pests. Suckering helps the rose to achieve vigor and fullness in less time than ones without.

This is just my own belief and my practice. Anyhow, roses here in the tropic grow slowly and not that vigorous for some varieties so suckering is indeed a much awaited event. :)

I agree with you on this. It does strain a bit to keep the garden green. But when I see our water outlet going straight into the plants, veggie peels and organic waste grinded in mixer before tossing them on the ground... I feel that the effort is worth it.
